Description

Capture distant wildlife, sports and family adventures with the lightweight and compact Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM RF-series zoom lens. With an advanced 5.5-stop Image Stabilizer2, great close focusing capability plus the powerful reach of a telephoto, it’s a stunning affordable lens that will bring those important moments to you.

Reach those distant subjects with ease

The RF 100-400MM F5.6-8 IS USM’s zoom range gives you the power and flexibility to capture a subject both close1 and far away. It’s ideal for sports photography, wildlife or a day trip to the park.

Super sharp and highly stable

Powerful 5.5-stop Optical Image Stabilisation2 gives the RF 100-400MM f/5.6-8 IS USM a great advantage for achieving sharp handheld stills and smooth movies with no need for a tripod to weigh you down.

Revolutionary size and weight

Weighing just 635g and measuring 164.7mm in length, this compact, lightweight lens is well-balanced, even when fully extended, and fits in a kit bag beautifully.

Responsive performance with smooth, fast AF

Thanks to a Nano USM motor focusing3 is fast, quiet and smooth, while the Lens Control Ring gives control over settings. A nine-blade aperture delivers great background blur too.

Super telephoto power

The RF 100-400MM F5.6-8 IS USM is ideal for animal photography and distant subjects producing great results thanks to Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass and advanced coatings.

Extend your reach even further

Increase your telephoto power with Canon RF extenders, which connect seamlessly4 with metering and Auto Focus to give you even greater precise reach for those faraway subjects.

New Technology

UD glass

UD glass has a low refractive index and low dispersion. Its performance is significantly better than ordinary optical glass and Canon has been able to manufacture a range of lenses with superior performance and at a lower cost than before.

Aspherical lens elements

In the early days, all lenses were spherical, but they were not best suited to rendering a sharp image because they cannot make parallel rays of light converge at the same point. This causes a problem called spherical aberration. Lens designers discovered that an aspherical lens shape would eliminate this type of aberration because the curvature of the lens could be used to converge the light rays to a single point. Aspherical lens elements help to compensate for this distortion.

Super Spectra Coating

Super Spectra Coating was the technology developed to meet strict colour reproduction standards. This multi-layered coating eliminated ghosting and flare caused by lens surface reflections, creating a durable hard lens surface with stable characteristics. Used with digital cameras, which are especially susceptible to ghosting and flare, Super Spectra Coating delivers optimum colour balance.

The RF System – big results from small apertures

Thanks to the advantages of the RF mount, lenses can be made lighter and smaller with higher performance, even those with small apertures. Smaller maximum aperture telephoto lenses can deliver excellent background blur, which many photographers demand. Depth-of-field strongly depends on the focal length of the lens, the distance of your subject and the distance of the background – not to mention the sensor size. And furthermore, nice bokeh can even be achieved even when used with RF extenders.

The RF System – great for capturing motion

RF lenses offer higher quality, speed, and control thanks to outstanding technology and design. The RF system, with Dual Pixel CMOS AF plus excellent optical and in-body stabilisation, allows better sharpness and image quality even in lower light. When faster shutter speeds are needed, full frame sensors allow higher ISO speeds even at narrow apertures, so even more compact lenses can record action beautifully. And on the RF 100-400MM F5.6-8 IS USM, the automatic panning mode catches the subject even more expertly.

1 Minimum focusing distance between 0.88m and 1.2m respectively. Max. magnification is 0.41x (at 400mm). Min. focusing distance is 0.88 m (at 200 mm)
