Stay within the rules
Comply with tournament rules and turn off Slope Mode from the menu. A blinking blue light lets others know you’re playing fair.
Laser Technology
Laser rangefinders use a laser beam3 to measure distances. They emit a laser pulse towards the target, which reflects back to the rangefinder. By calculating the time it takes for the laser to bounce back, the device determines the precise distance to the target, providing accurate distance information to golfers in yards and metres.
Slope Mode
Slope Mode is an advanced feature in laser rangefinders that adjusts distance measurements to account for changes in elevation. It calculates the angle between the rangefinder, the target and the ground. This helps golfers get more accurate distance on hilly courses, factoring in the slope’s impact on the shot.
Slope Mode On/Off
The Slope Mode On/Off is a crucial feature in laser rangefinders. It allows golfers to toggle between slope-adjusted and non-slope measurements4. This versatility allows golfers to comply with tournament rules that prohibit slope-adjusted distances, ensuring fair and accurate gameplay.
Pin-locking function
Canon PowerShot GOLF’s incorporated pin-locking function targets the closest object in the case of multiple subjects being detected during continuous rangefinding. Once the intended object becomes clear, a flag icon displayed in the viewfinder and a vibration5 indicates the measurement has been taken.
1 Terminal cover must be securely closed to maintain water resistance. Although the rangefinder features water-resistant construction, this cannot completely prevent water droplets from entering the rangefinder.
2 Measurement accuracy is ±1.0 yd. (±0.91 m) under 100 yd. (91 m) and ±2.0 yd. (±1.83 m) beyond 100 yd. (91 m). Straight-line measurement, based on Canon testing standards. Canon PowerShot GOLF is a basic rangefinder; measurement results should not be used for official records or the like.
3 This is a Class 1 laser, which means it is eye-safe under all operating conditions.
4 When the slope function off lamp is blinking, the playback and file delete functions are restricted.
5 Vibration can be turned off in Canon PowerShot GOLF’s settings if desired. Does not vibrate during movie recording.
