5-Stop Image Stabilizer

The RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM features a new Image Stabilizer offering 5-stops compensation. The combination of this technology and high-speed RF communication means that performance of this lens surpasses the best technology in the EF range, allowing photographers to choose longer exposures without camera shake affecting the resulting image. And when combined with in-body stabilisation on the EOS R5 and EOS R6, even greater levels of stability are possible.

Dual Nano USM focusing motor

The RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L IS USM features dual focus motors. Using two Nano USM AF motors helps drive the lightweight optical elements with speed, precision and control making it ideal for video usage. To ensure high speed focusing, a more compact lens design and improve close focusing, a floating lens group system was used which required two focus motors. One Nano USM is used for the conventional focusing group and the other for the floating focus group.

Advanced optics and lens coatings

Due to the design of the RF lens mount and the short back focus and large diameter, the Canon lens designers have been able achieve both higher image quality and a compact optical system. The lens features a combination of ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements to provide stunning image quality and to tackle any possible lens aberrations. Advanced lens coatings such as Air Sphere (ASC) provide a new benchmark in ultimate image quality and sharpness.
